Planning and organizing your holiday can be exciting, but there are aspects which can become quite stressful. During the summer time, hundreds of individuals, couples and families prepare to pack their bags and spend a few weeks in the sunshine. To avoid getting stressed while planning to go away, read these quick tips.
Make a list
This is the first thing to do before you start packing your bags. Make a list of all the things that you will need, and that means everything!
Don’t leave out the little things that you think you’ll remember, and don’t miss out the large things that you think you couldn’t possibly leave behind. Include all cosmetics, toothbrushes, clothes, shoes, bags and any medication you need to take. List each item of clothing you want to take, for example, blue shorts, pink shirt, red and white maxi dress. By doing this, you’ll be highly unlikely to forget anything, and you won’t be left wondering which items of clothing you actually intended to take with you.
When you’re finally packing on the day before you leave, you can carry the list around the house with you and tick off each item as you add it to your suitcase.
You could even create subsections of the list for items which can be packed earlier, items which have to be packed just before you leave, items which will go in your big case and items which can be included in your hand luggage (if you’re travelling by plane).
Give yourself time
Make sure you’ve been shopping and bought all the items you need for your holiday well before you actually leave. If you need a new summer wardrobe, start shopping a few weeks before to make sure you have time to buy all the clothing you need. Again, make a list if you need to. You don’t want to discover the night before your flight that you haven’t got any swimwear to swim in the sea or relax around the pool!
Start packing within plenty of time too. Things which can be packed a couple of days before can go in the suitcase earlier so you don’t have to worry about those later on.
Don’t take everything you own!
There’s always the temptation to pack too much “just in case I need it!”. Chances are that if you don’t really think you need it, you probably won’t. Many people go on holiday with their suitcases bursting with clothes which are never actually worn during their stay. If you only take what you need and you have some spare space in your case, you can always buy things while on holiday and take home some souvenirs or presents for friends and family.
However, it’s important to remember the thing that you do need, especially the essentials. Any medication you need should be at the top of the “Important” list, as other things such as toothpaste and hairbrushes can be bought once you arrive at your destination.
